Space heaters that use a tungsten filament heat up fairly quickly. Once the ideal operating temperature is reached, the filament is kept at a constant temperature.
Tungsten filament heaters provide excellent heating. The radiation gets absorbed directly by the skin and clothes. Regular heaters warm up the air as opposed to the skin and clothes. This is why they require a long time to provide adequate heating.
